Sexy heat, heavy beat.

Lame title, I know, but I am going to review Maroon 5's new CD, It Won't Be Soon Before Long.

This album is pretty much amazing and well worth the 3 year wait since their last album, Songs About Jane. It has a pretty heavy 80's kinda sound, with an equal mix of dance and slow songs.

I'm particularly drawn to "Wake Up Call", a song that relies on a techno beat that's like a funkier, darker version of one of their songs from Songs About Jane. The chorus is insanely catchy and the verses are sultry and smooth. It's dark subject matter-It's about a man who shoots his girlfriend's lover-is delightfully heavy fair for this band.

Another song I adore is "Back at Your Door". It reminds me of a slow dance song. It's sexy and romantic, with lyrics like "If I took you for granted/I apologize for acting tough/You’re my reason for living/And there’s no way I’m giving up, oh". It makes me happy with it's harmonious chorus and melodic use of guitar and keyboard. It's a rare, sweet song in a record filled with innuendo.

The rest of the songs are fantastic and I consider them to be the best yet. Each song has a new sound and show the band's newfound maturity. Adam Levine's lyrics ring true. And, we know that they still know how to get funky and sexy.

Grindhouse

This is my review for the film "Grindhouse".

Grindhouse is made up of two films at 80 minutes each. The first, Planet Terror, is better than the second. Planet Terror, directed by Robert Rodriguez, is basically at its core a zombie film. The main characters are a one-legged stipper, Cherry, and her ex-boyfriend El Wray. They team up with a nurse and a bunch of survivors to fight the zombies and figure out what's behind this strange phenomena. Without giving too much away, I can say that Rodriguez did an excellent job in doing cheesy horror movies but he was able to make it serious at the same time. The special effects are fabulous and the dialogue is as good as it could be. I wasn't surprised or anything but I enjoyed it. Not one second did my attention falter.

The second film, Death Proof, is the latest offering from Quentin Tarantino. Now, I'm no stranger to Tarantino's work, but this one doesn't seem strong enough. It's like, he had a good idea, but he didn't have enough time to flesh it all out or his idea was only enough for about an hour of good stuff. As far as a horror movie goes, it only has one moment of gore and the rest is all car stunts or talking. The first half an hour or so was pure boring because it was nothing but dialogue between some characters who, no surprise here, are killed by the main character, Stuntman Mike. The rest of the movie centers around Stuntman Mike chasing his next victims, who happen to be in the movie business and know how to drive. The ending didn't feel like an actual ending and halfway through the movie I just got bored and was interested more in their outfits than the plot.

The film as a whole, however, was fun and I enjoyed it despite its three and a half hour running time. The fake trailers by some leading horror movie directors were fabulous and they made me laugh and cringe at the same time. The whole movie had moments that made you go "Awwwww...." in a disgusted way. Some parts even made me laugh at its ridiculous-ness.

All in all, I enjoyed this film and will probably watch it again on DVD. I reccomend it if you like Tarantino's films, Sin City, and gross out films like Hostel.
